Customer Reviews and Ratings - January 2010
From February, Ocado's shoppers will be able to rate and review grocery and other products, once a new 'Ratings and Reviews' service goes online.
Whether or not you are new to online shopping, you may feel the need to check unbiased product reviews and comparative ratings before you add an item to your cart. A savvy and careful customer can easily be of help to other customers once they take the trouble to rate a product or review a brand or label of any supermarket groceries.
The service will include features that allow a shopper to let others know their customer opinions on popular social media channels. Ocado hopes to enhance the online shopping experience with this new service.
Meet Amy, Asda's Virtual Assistant - November 2009
In November, Asda introduced Amy, a virtual assistant (VA) who will help you when you are shopping online for groceries.
The shopper's assistant easily responds to normal language questions and provides instant help to an increasing customer base, much as a hovering stores assistant would. The VA is equipped to answer a range of queries, supported by well-updated stores database and information. Fielding over 3000 queries a day, Amy is probably 'on her fingertips', all week.
Complete Meat Guide Online - October 2009

Next-day wine delivery options - September 2009
If you are looking for next-day delivery of wine cases, check out Tesco Wine.
Since the supermarket re-launched this site a little while ago, it has added a unique, IT-enabled storage and stock availability solution that will allow customers to choose quicker delivery of their wine orders. If you have ordered wine earlier, you will remember the long wait of four or more days to receive the cases.
The new system is seen as a much more efficient service that keeps customers' changing needs as top priority. Try it out, especially if you happen to have last minute party plans.
Customers have their say at Asda - August 2009
If you wish to share your opinion about Asda's online grocery services, or vent a pet peeve about your supermarket, and also ensure that you are heard by the right people, you can have your say at Your Asda (accessed via the About Asda link on their homepage).
At the interactive forum-like portal, designed similar to a blog, the store offers visitors plenty of useful information besides attempting to answer a range of customer comments, even queries like "what happens to odd-shaped veggies that don't reach the display shelves?"
Going by some of the features listed under 'Hot Topics', like 'Cutting Waste', and 'Pedal Power', Asda uses the portal to let customers know that the store takes its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) seriously.
Carrier Bag Usage - July 2009
Food retailers have reduced the number of carrier bags given to customers by 48% therefore reducing the environmental impact of plastic bags.
Several companies set themselves a target of cutting the number of bags given to customers by half between 2006 and 2009 in the UK so they almost reached their target and, in May this year, 418 million fewer bags were distributed than in May 2006 when 870 million were handed out.

Grocery Market Share - April 2009
Statistics indicate that the grocery sector as a whole grew 6.2% year on year in the twelve-week period ending 19 April 2009.
Sainsbury's has taken a larger market share and its growth rate is greater than other top supermarkets. Its market share is up from 16.1% a year ago to 16.3% now, helped by special promotions in the run-up to Easter.
Aldi and Lidl continued to grow as they are discount chains and have benefitted from the downturn. Aldi's growth was up 13.6% and Lidl's was up by 12.3%. Waitrose staged a turnaround and returned to growth for the period.
